Usable area
How much of the façade can practically host generation after glazing, framing, services, access and architectural exclusions?

High-rise buildings have a simple geometric problem: the roof is small compared with the amount of floor space below it. Solar façades add another generation surface — directly on the asset consuming the electricity.
Assess your building
Rooftop PV remains one of the best ways to add solar to a building. But in dense commercial districts, roof area can be small relative to total building area and may already be occupied by plant, services, terraces or existing solar.
The façade is different. Vision glass, spandrels, cladding, fins, canopies and other envelope zones create a much larger surface inventory. Not all of it will be suitable — but enough may be to materially expand on-site generation.

Orientation, surrounding buildings, self-shading and local climate determine how much irradiance reaches each surface.
On-site generation is most valuable when it displaces electricity that would otherwise be purchased at the building's effective tariff.
Installation method, façade access, wiring, power electronics, replacement cycle and certification determine the real project economics.
Sydsol is developing semi-transparent thin-film solar for applications where appearance and light transmission matter. That opens the possibility of generation across parts of the envelope that conventional opaque modules cannot serve.
The value is not simply “transparent solar.” It is access to more of the building's surface while preserving the architectural function of the façade.

For large portfolios, the same logic can identify which assets deserve detailed engineering first.
